Game Idea 2: Work On Mondays

This week I have put more thought and research into my Game Idea. I've narrowed my four ideas down to one, which is game idea 2 "Work On Monday". This game is inspired by Murphy’s Law, “everything that can go wrong will go wrong” and my personal experience. I have travelled to work  or college in difficult circumstances such as bad weather, late busses or trains, traffic jams and any other possible obstacles. In the feedback I received I was informed that I am expected to create just one simple aspect of any of my ideas and not the whole game idea. Knowing this I have brainstormed Game Idea 2 to figure out what about the game will work best, what is the most enjoyable part of the game.

Looking more into the unity tutorials, game mechanics and what its going to be possible for me to make at the end of this semester, I've came to the conclusion that I will make one scene from my game idea. This scene will include one player and a car that they will use to transport themselves to work. It will also have obstacles like boxes which can be avoided by controlling your car. I believe that this will be an achievable game as in the unity tutorial 1.1, 1.2, and 1.3 we learned how to place a vehicle into a scene along with obstacles and give them mass so that there is an impact when they collide. Looking through further unity tutorial I noticed there is a tutorial on power ups which is something I'd also like to include in my game. The idea is to get to work as fast as possible avoiding as many obstacles you can, there can be power ups located in more tricky areas which will grant you various powers for short time which ultimately can help you break your high score.

Thinking more about camera positions I think the main camera should be placed behind the car at a substantial height and slightly tilted so that the player can anticipate obstacles and powerups and either avoid or collect them. I believe the visual aesthetics of the game should be simple but also creative in colour scheme.

I am happy with the story behind this game, the game is meant to be fun and a mockery of peoples negative attachments to Mondays. This game can be suitable to people of all ages because its relatable to anyone who travels to work or to school or university. I think the overall feeling to the game should be joyful and lively, it should include music and sound effects, and the game should not be too hard to play in hopes to change people negative attachment to Mondays and that it is the same as every other day.

This is an article which includes 5 common new game developer mistakes has helped in assuring me I'm focusing in the correct areas when brainstorming my game, making sure I'm not over or under planning and has given me future insight for when I will be creating my game

  5. Hi Aaron, Killian here, I really liked your game idea, I thought it was very interesting and fun, you seemed to have fun with it which is why it'll turn out so good. I think the name is very clever as it kind of gives away the premise of the game, but still makes people want to play it. All the best and good luck with the rest of the year.
