First Playable
First Playable
This Week I have for my project I have been working on getting my first playable for my game up and running! After completing my Game Design Document I am ready to make my first playable. I have gathered a wide range of assets for my game from the unity assets store. Having completed a game design document it made it really simple for me to visualize what my game is going to look like. With this knowledge I was able to navigate through the unity asset store and find perfectly suited assets for my game.
Possible Assets For My Game |
What is working for me ?
Gathering assets. I have attained a further knowledge of what my game is going to look like and feel like. I have done more research on different systems I want to include in my game.
What I'm finding difficult ?
I am finding the unity tutorials a challenge. I have not given up on them but I am very slowly working through them. Overcoming each obstacle as they present themselves to me. It has been hard to build a set of skills in Unity due to the amount of problems and errors I am having! It has also been difficult learning unity with no hands on help from a tutor in college.
With my experience of leaning new software's this year and in my first year at TUD, I have learned that it takes a lot of practice and patience. Learning something new is not easy especially something as complex as game design. During my first year in Creative Digital Media and also at the beginning of second year I was worried that my skills in using the software's was not up to scratch, especially Adobe Illustrator and Brackets. Coming close to the end of the first semester of second year I am delighted to say I am now more confident than I have ever been at using Illustrator. I've found a love for using it and find myself practicing quite often. It took more than a whole academic year for me to make that break through with Illustrator. My point is that I am not overly concerned at the problems I am experiencing with Unity as I am confident that I will make that break through like I did with Illustrator.
I have organized a meeting with my lecturer to discuss some of the technical problems I am having.
Due to the current global pandemic our whole lives including academically have been disturbed. It can be hard to find time to solve problems with a lecturer on a regular basis. Everybody has to be free at a specific time, which is not always possible.
Next week, week 9 I plan to have my first playable completed!
Hey Aaron! have just been reading a few of your project blog posts and think it could turn out to be a really great game. I agree Unity Tutorials are quite difficult to follow and they make me really stressed sometimes but I'm sure you'll get there. I read your introduction post before this one and in it you spoke about not knowing exactly what you wanted to do after the course but here you say you're starting to love Illustrator, good to see you're finding something you could eventually end up in! If you're ever stressing or need a set of fresh eyes to look at something you're stuck on throw me a message whenever! Good Luck!
ReplyDeleteHi, Aaron!
ReplyDeleteI'm also having trouble with Unity, it can be so tricky at times, specially the challenges tasks. The last challenge tasak we had to do (challenge 4) I could barely make it :'(
I was so scared with Illustrato and Brackets too, I had never used these applications before and I has really afraid of repeating the modules, but now everything is working fine (not wonders yet hahaha).
I hope everything works fine for you and best of luck on the creation proccess of your game!! Looking forward to be able to play it :D

Hey Aaron, really cool progress you got here on your game, I like that you are taking the time out to try and find all of your assets for this, if you ever need any help with unity I can try help you, just send me a message and ill figure something out, unity can be tricky and it takes a while to get used to, so don't be worried. But overall well done this week and keep up on the progress, all the best and best of luck!!
ReplyDeleteHi Aaron, I am happy to see you are making progress with your game. The worst part is actually getting it started so at least you are on the road. I would definitely say getting all the assets together is the right thing to do, it makes it a lot easier for you in the long run, rather then having to go back and forth getting new assets every time. The Unity tutorials can definitely be challenging and very time consuming as well. You literally have to sit down and take your time with them, to get them done right, which is hard to say the least. I can see why you are having trouble with it, if you ever need help, no worries at all. But anyways, its looking good so far, best of luck getting it finished, I am sure you'll have it sorted.
ReplyDeleteHi Aaron I just read your blog post there.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you the unity tutorials have been so frustrating and difficult so your not alone there. I also have just recently started to understand how to use illustrator too, and so far I am really enjoying it. I agree it takes a lot of practice. It is great to hear how you are working through each obstacle as they come to you, I think especially during this time college can be stressful I hope it gets easier for us all.
Best of luck with your game and I hope it all goes well for you!

Hi Aaron! Unity tutorials have been a pain and you're not alone on that. Without the unity assets store I honestly don't know what I would do. Coding games especially when you have no knowledge with how anything works gets extremely frustrating and without Youtube tutorials I would be 100000% more clueless. I didn't know anything about illustrator but each day I'm finding out something new and I can create a lot of cool stuff! I hope everything works out for you in the end! - Anna Zurawska
