In this week blog post I will be discussing the blog commenting and project feedback assignments.
I will be going back and reviewing all of the comments and feedback I have received from other students in the class. I will rate the quality of comments from my fellow students, and then I will be talking about which comments and feedback I found most useful.
I would have to say that the I am happy with the quality of comments and feedback I have received so far. I received a total of twenty three comments on my blog. In my opinion this is plenty of comments and I appreciated the helping hand from each student. From the beginning of this semester many of the students commenting on my blog have been on the ball with suggestions and critical feedback. I have definitely found it more useful when the people commenting were being as critical and honest and possible.
In one of the previous readings we learned why people find it so hard to hear negative feedback, we also found out about the many benefits that come with negative feedback. When delivered correctly negative feedback is the best kind to receive because it gives us a new opportunity to learn and improve. Honesty goes a long way when it comes to feedback which is something I have tried to implement in the feedback I have been offering. It is always great to get a second opinion and a different perspective from others. I personally think that the blog commenting is a great exercise, it helps us students improve on our communication skills as well as improving the overall work we are completing because we are constantly receiving feedback and suggestions.
I would say that the feedback I have been offering to others has certainly helped them. In my feedback I have tried to be as open and critical as I can as well as always trying to find suggestions for improvement. Each week I have included WWW: Wow - Wonder - What if..? and TAG: Tell, Ask, Give in my feedback comments. These strategies have helped me in distributing quality feedback to each of my classmates. In each comment I gave suggestions on what I personally felt would work well for their games.
Overall I have found it educational and entertaining taking part in the comments and feedback assignments. I have enjoyed getting to know people through their blogs, it has given me an opportunity to connect with people I might not have connected with if I was physically in college. I find it interesting observing peoples different styles of writing. I can most certainly say I have learned from others in the course taking inspiration in their layouts, writing styles and game projects.
In my opinion, to get the most use out of the feedback assignments students must be as critical as possible to each other. If we all follow the feedback strategies we have learned and consistently include them in our comments we will be improving our work substantially everyday.
